Balustrade Installation

The balustrade system specifications below will help builders and homeowners better understand how our balustrade is assembled on the jobsite.

A 12" steel pipe is provided to install the newel post for the balustrade. The steel pipe is bolted to the concrete or deck surface using 2" masonry screws. If a patio has a water proof membrane, spec sheets are provided to instruct the builder on how to install the 4" x 4" to receive the newel post.

Once the steel pipe or 4x4 has been installed, the newel post slides down over the pipe. The top and bottom rail is then cut to fit between the newel posts. The bottom rail is then attached to the newel post using masonry screws. Next, lay out and drill all balusters using a 1" diamond tip bit. After a section of rails are drilled we then apply liquid nail in each location at the bottom of each baluster.

Once all the balusters are in place on our bottom rail apply liquid nail to the top of the balusters, then set the top rail in place by attaching it into the newel post with masonry screws. We recommend that you apply extra liquid nail, let dry cut and sand excess off.

Next, divide the section of balustrade into three equal sections and apply ratchet straps to tighten the rails to the balusters. Then adjust and check spacing and square of each baluster before tightening the rail down. Let set over night and remove.

The next day cut all excess liquid nail and sand residue off. Then take dry mix sacrete and pour into the newel post that will fill the void to the 4x4 or the steel pipe, then liquid nail the newel post cap on. Once the concrete sets the newel post will be very solid. Then take the colored matched caulking that we provide to caulk the tops of all balusters and handrail to newel post joints.

To clean simply take a scrubbing pad or a stiff brush with soft scrub with bleach and add water and clean, for really stubborn stains on the balustrade use Windex. Below we are listing the weights of our different balustrade systems.

A-Balustrade approximate weight per lineal foot ( 38lbs.)
B-Balustrade approximate weight per lineal foot (55lbs.)
C-Balustrade approximate weight per lineal foot (80lbs.)
D-Balustrade approximate weight per lineal foot (14lbs.)
