Decorative Columns
Synthetic Stone Inc.’s decorative columns are made to imitate real stone columns. Our decorative capitals and bases are made of the same material-- real limestone & resins. They are then textured to match the column, thus giving you the appearance of a real limestone column. Our decorative capitals are painstakingly made from clay, giving all of our capitals there own distinctive fine lines and details that you will not see in any of our competitors. Once our decorative cap model is completed we then make a mold of that model. While this process is very time consuming, we can reuse this mold which allows us to be very competitive in our pricing. Instead of making each capital out of limestone, we can mass produce this capital saving the homeowner lead time and money. When comparing our decorative columns to a limestone decorative column, there is a considerable difference in how our decorative columns and capitals are made. Due to the weight of limestone columns, they are sent to the job in 3 to 4 foot sections, all of these sections have a mortar joint and each splice of the column. They have to be installed with a lift due to the weight. They are also normally installed by a brick mason. The time to install a decorative stone column is about 1 to 2 days with an entire mason crew for one column, the cost to install these decorative columns in very expensive, not to mention the special footings they require to carry the tremendous weight. Our decorative columns are sent to the jobsite in one piece, the cap and base are separate, our base slides over the bottom cylinder of the column, the decorative cap is then glued to the column using an adhesive. The column is hollow, eliminating most of the weight thus allowing it to be installed in the same way as a fiberglass column. Our decorative columns are load bearing and require no special tools for installation, for example, a skil saw with a masonry blade will cut through the column. Our columns can be installed by a three man carpenter crew in about 1 hour. From a distance or close up you can not tell the difference between our decorative column and a stone column. Note, as with any column they are not designed to prevent wind uplift. You can consult a structural engineer in regards to this potential problem. |
