Marble Columns versus Synthetic Columns

One of the most important aspects to an exterior synthetic column or synthetic marble column is how will it hold up to the elements. In determining how any material will hold up to the elements, it has to be first sent for testing in a lab where it can be exposed to some of the most extreme weather. One of the most important aspects of this test is how well the product resists discoloration. Discoloration is normally the first sign that is visible to the homeowner.

Delta B is the most important of all colors in this test. It shows how much the product yellows, the best human eye can see a Delta B discoloration of 4.0. We have had our synthetic columns tested against our main competitor that manufactures marble columns who use the same process that we do except for a different resin. The results are as follows. After 1,000 hours of testing of the white marble column piece it had a Delta B of 18.12. It had yellowed over four times more than what you can visibly see with the human eye. When we tested the small piece of our synthetic column it had a Delta B of 6.67 which is 63% better against weathering than our competition. When we tested our grey sample piece of our synthetic column it had weathered a total of 1.16 which means the color did not yellow enough to been seen by the best human eye.
